ICIMSI deals with research and education in the domains of mechanical engineering and materials technology. Our competence is the close collaboration with industry, in projects and partnerships, enabling a fruitful synergy of the resources within the academic sector and those present primarily, but not exclusively, in the local industrial sector.
ICIMSI is using additive manufacturing in the framework of different projects. Currently, two AM machines are in use at ICIMSI: one Stratasys Objet Eden 260V (Polyjet technology) and one Robotfactory 3DLPrinter-HD 2.0 (SLA-DLP technology). The Polyjet process is used to create prototypes and functional parts for several research and industrial partners whereas parts produced with Polyjet and SLA-DLP processes are used as templates for the production of ceramic foams and lattices (mainly Si/SiC, Al2O3 and CeO2) via the replica method. With regard to material formulation, the institute has a long experience in developing polymer- matrix materials for different applications and is currently developing its own system for additive manufacturing of highly complex parts based on ceramics.
